Social wellness determines how you relate to others. It encompasses building health, nurturing, and supportive relationships. Part of social wellness is nurturing existing relationships and genuine connections with others. In short, we need people! We may not like people sometimes, but it is a fact that for our well-being we need them. That stated, here are some departments to keep in mind for specific social wellness support. Student Services
Social worker, Joe Loffredo, wants you to know that Student Services is a great place to come for assistance with social wellness. This department has the ability to look at the individual student and how their environment and specific situation affects them. Taking this into account, they recommend different interventions based on individual needs. Stop by and check them out! Athletic and Activity Office This is the small office next to the math department. Walking in here provides a fun, warm, and casual environment where all of your questions will be answered. Kim Humann states that if she doesn’t know an answer she will find out for you. Not an athlete? No problem, this office has lots of comfy chairs and engaging people to assist you in the social wellness category. Administration A big misconception surrounding administration is that they are only here for discipline and making rules. WRONG!! Who better to help us navigate the school environment then those individuals tied into all aspects of school and community life. Dean McGuigan and Mr. Hickey want to point out that there is newly implemented social-emotional training for staff so that we may better assist others in this journey. Staff attend meetings most late start days and many activities surround improving social wellness. Stop on in and talk to an administrator. They have open door policies. ILC This area is well known to most of us as a safe and comfortable place. Mrs. Mason notes that while academic support is a main function in the ILC, programs such as the Makerspace, the Sequoit Wellness Challenge, and the final exam breakfast make for a well rounded social experience. Whether a student or a staff member needs to work alone, in a group, or one on one, the ILC staff is there to support them. These are just a few areas you can utilize to help in the social wellness category. I’d love to hear some suggestions on others. Feel free to leave a comment or email me at [email protected].

So many options for support and relaxation here at ACHS, including amazing colleagues! One of my favorite spots is the Maker Space!

I appreciate letting students know how each of the different departments are designed to help them.
